Philip Wilson
Phillip Wilson is our leatherworking artist.
He is an inmate field minister at the Hughes Unit of the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) who has been ordained to pastor wherever and to whomever God places in his path. However, God's ministry for him has primarily led him to the inmates in segregation. He goes to them three times a week to bring music and a message.
He also teaches Voyager twice a week and assists in teaching another class called “Iron Sharpening Iron” along with another of our artists, Clint Ivy. He attends a class three times a week called Prison Fellowship Academy, as well attends 2 Bible studies, and a prayer circle each night.
After all of these ministry activities, he spends as much time in the prison craft shop as he can, which is where his quality leather products are made.
Many inmates do not have the ability to earn legitimate finances while in prison, and the ones who can do not make near enough to provide for themselves or their families. We believe that giving inmates a chance to earn their own financial well-being helps to build their confidence working in the free market, opposed to trying to make a living on the streets. We hope that their family friendly creations will be a joy for you to display, as well a joy for them to support themselves and their families.
