Brett “Big Ed” Fowler

The 11th century monk and theologian Anselm of Canterbury gave the world a definition of “theology” that is still quoted a millennium later: faith seeking understanding.

Brett Edward Fowler became a theologian in prison. He did not seek faith, but he searched for understanding. In this quest for knowledge, a seed of faith was planted and a relationship with Christ began to develop. After understanding his identity in Christ, and in homage to his father’s name, Fowler left behind his old gang name and became “Big Ed.” Since then, our merciful God has granted Fowler a fair measure of insight and understanding, which he has poured into this book. Living out the witness to Christ in prison presents challenges believers in the free world will never know. It also affords opportunities for ministry all its own. Fowler came to see how to apply the Scriptures in dynamic ways to his prison existence in order to bring glory to God and to express that freedom to his fellow inmates. It is his prayer that his cell-block theology might bring comfort and peace to those on the inside, as well their loved ones on the outside.

Brett was born in 1972 and has spent more than half of his life behind bars under a life sentence. His path to faith had been a rocky one until he finally surrendered his life to Christ. Since then, he has sought to be a minister and encourager to his fellow inmates through fellowship, prayer, Bible studies, and discipleship. He also desires to be an example of rehabilitation through regeneration to the  prison administration and officers alike. His first book “Freedom Within” is a long awaited dream that has been realized and he hopes and prays that it will inspire people and change lives.

Many inmates do not have the ability to earn legitimate finances while in prison, and the ones who can do not make near enough to provide for themselves or their families. We believe that giving inmates a chance to earn their own financial well-being helps to build their confidence working in the free market, opposed to trying to make a living on the streets. We hope that these books will be a valuable addition to your home library. Every book purchased (and every donation) helps us to send study books & Bibles to inmates.
